Good morning! We’ve made it, minus Q-U, through the 7th annual A-Z Blogging Challenge! For those who are interested I will post Q-U next week, all being well.
Today we welcome the final letter of the alphabet. Z is for Zeal
The Bible offers this instruction:
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. (Proverbs 23:17, NIV)
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. (Romans 12:11, NIV)
Another word for zeal is enthusiasm:
“You have certainly done wrong, but make sure now that you worship the Lord with true enthusiasm, and that you don’t turn your back on him in any way. (1 Samuel 12:20b, TLB)
He [Jesus] died under God’s judgment against our sins so that he could rescue us from constant falling into sin and make us his very own people, with cleansed hearts and real enthusiasm for doing kind things for others. (Titus 2:14, TLB)
As you can see, we are to be zealous for the Lord in our respect for, worship, and service to Him. We are also to put a spirit of fervour into our service to others. I wonder how many of us have that level of commitment.
King David, famous for being a man after the Lord’s own heart, had the kind of zeal for God that all Christians should emulate. He had this to say:
Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. (Psalm 69:9, NLT)
Is this the kind of zeal you long for? God is zealous both for His name and His people. He is passionate about you and me and comes after us like a shepherd for his lost sheep (Luke 15:3-7).
[Note: nowhere does it say that in our zeal we are to persecute people of different viewpoints and faiths as some religious extremists would say and do. God has never been about religion; He is all about relationship and has given us the free will to choose. If you are interested in knowing more about this, please visit http://peacewithgod.net/]
|...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith (Hebrews 1:1b-2a, NIV)|
Today’s Prayer: God forgive us for our lack of zeal, enthusiasm and passion. Help us to see and repent of our lukewarm condition. Indwell us with Your Spirit that we might be on fire for You as once we were. May the world see our passion for You and wonder why. And may we be ready to give an answer for the faith we have.
